Mimetica, 2018
Artificial palm tree, steel, resin, natural fiber, polypropylene
300 x 387 x 607 cm.
Mimetica is a large-scale sculpture realized using an artificial palm tree, like those commonly employed to camouflage mobile phone masts within urban and natural landscapes. The fake palm highlights the ambiguous relationship between mental images (the untouched landscape as an element of the collective imagination) and social reality. By transforming it into a spatial element suspended upside down from the ceiling, the artist creates the illusion of an expanded space, drawing attention to the strangeness of this wholly artificial tree.
